Shopping in Costa del Sol

Looking to do a bit of shopping in Costa del Sol? Shoppers will notice that each town has its own unique vibe. The smaller towns are home to colorful streets markets, whereas commercial shopping centers have burgeoned throughout the larger cities. There are countless places to find that perfect holiday souvenir!

Nearly ever town has a marketplace hub. The marketplace is where visitors and locals gather to peruse the stalls of vendors and small businesses. Generally, the markets are set up in plazas and are open to everyone. The markets tend to flank the busiest roads in each province in order to attract the most customers. This is especially important considering that these markets receive no financial aid from the government. They are completely self-sustained.

Málaga City is a popular shopping destination. With at least 9 unique shopping centers, it is truly a shopper’s paradise. The main Plaza Mayor boasts more than 30 restaurants, 20 cinema screens (including an IMAX screen), and a bike park. Málaga would give a few New York City shopping districts a run for their money! The only drawback is that the area can get quite crowded, so it may be best to avoid weekend shopping hours. Other large cities like Fuengirola, Rincon de la Victoria, and Benalmádena Costa, also offer a variety of shopping opportunities. To fully appreciate the market experience, it is suggested to visit at least 2 or 3 Costa del Sol hotspots.

Tourist information centers are a perfect way to discover unique shopping experiences. They typically carry information about historical sites such as the Nerja caves, and will disclose whether or not souvenirs are available from the attraction. Shopping in Costa del Sol is really quite the experience. With so many marketplaces and malls from which to choose, every visitor is sure to find something that suits his or her tastes.
